There are many dangers in horse racing for both horse and jockey. There have been untoward accidents during horse race. A horse can stumble and fall, or fall when jumping an obstacle, exposing both jockey and horse to the danger of being trampled and injured.
Studies reveal that for every 1,000 jockeys riding, over 600 will have medically treated injuries. Horses also face dangers in racing. 1.5. horses die out of every 1000 starts in the US. The U.S. Jockey Club in New York estimates that about 600 horses died at racetracks in 2006.
Although science has been unable to come up with any breeding system that guarantees the birth of a champion, breeders over the centuries have produced an increasingly higher percentage of Thoroughbreds who are successful on the racetrack by following two basic principles. The first is that Thoroughbreds with superior racing ability are more likely to produce offspring with superior racing ability. The second is that horses with certain pedigrees are more likely to pass along their racing ability to their offspring.
The beat of the hooves, the roar of the crowd and the thrill of the first-race bet – there is nothing to match the excitement of horse racing. This popular sport is here to stay and win many more hearts in the coming centuries.
