CRICKET
The origin of Cricket, a bat-and-ball team sport is first documented as being played in southern England in the 16th century. By the 18th century, the popularity of cricket had soared and it developed to become the national sport of England.

A cricket match is played between two teams of eleven players each on a cricket field at the centre of which is a pitch. Simply put, in cricket, one team bats, trying to score as many runs as possible without being dismissed. The other team bowls and fields, trying to dismiss the other team’s batsmen and limit any runs being scored. When the batting team has used all its available overs or has no remaining batsmen, the roles become reversed and it is now the fielding team’s turn to bat and to outscore the opposition. Nowadays white balls are also used, for visibility in games played at night under artificial lighting. The cricket bat is made of willow, flat on one side, humped on the other for strength. The whole bat has a maximum length of 965 millimeters. There are three wickets, which are wooden structures made up of a set of three stumps topped by a pair of bails. Bails are two wooden crosspieces which sit in grooves atop the adjacent pairs of stumps.

Its important for the players to wear the Protective Gear which comprises of  Pads, gloves, helmet, to prevent them form any injury when struck by the ball. Their shoes are made of leather, usually with spiked soles for grip on the grass. Each team has a traditional uniform as per the requirement of their team or country. For games played with a red ball, the clothing must be white or cream.

A cricket field is a roughly elliptical field of flat grass, ranging in size from about 90 to 150 meters  or 100-160 yards  across, bounded by an obvious fence or other marker. But there is no fixed size or shape for the field.

The game is adjudicated by two umpires, who make all decisions on the field and whose word is absolutely final. One umpire stands behind the non-striker's wicket, ready to make judgments on LBWs and other events requiring a decision. The other umpire stands in line with the striker's popping crease

In case a player is inujured, there are substitutes ready to replace him. Although a substitute may only field - he may not bowl, nor bat. A substitute may not keep wicket.

Today, you will find several variations in the length of a game of cricket. In professional cricket this ranges from a limit of 20 or 50 overs per side i.e.; Limited Overs Cricket. When the game played over 5 days, then it is known as Test Cricket. There are different rules that govern how a game is won, lost, drawn or tied.
